Nada Shalash is a Licensed Social Worker and holds a Master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Kentucky. Nada is licensed to practice in Kentucky and Illinois. Growing up in Kentucky, Nada’s passion in serving the Muslim community in her hometown helped her understand the need for mental health therapists for individuals of minority and marginalized communities. Her graduate training involved working with adolescents in an alternative school setting. In addition, Nada completed a clinical internship at a primary care clinic with adults that dealt with a broad spectrum of issues including anxiety, depression, and trauma. Nada’s therapeutic approach utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) through a multi-cultural lens that helps better meet the needs of the client. Nada is also currently a student at the Universal Islamic College of Chicago"

Alhamdulillah receiving the scholarship was truly a blessing from Allah SWT. It was a great help alhamdulillah and helped me a lot with my finances...I was able to pay for my books as well as my rent..as you can imagine living away is very expensive!! I used to worry a lot about finances and in addition to this I was quite stressed with finals. Alhamdulillah the scholarship took care of the financial side which indeed was a great blessing. Allah SWt provides for you from sources which you can never imagine and I truly did not think that I would get the scholarship. alhamdulillah my du'as were accepted. Fiji was hit by serious flooding during January 2012. After entrusting my troubles, fears, and worries to Almighty's plan for me, my situation has turned around in so many ways. Now that i am able to wear full hijab with abaya, my life has never been better. Alhamdulillah (Masha Allah, I'm crying so many happy tears writing this). May Allah bless you for the vital role you have in helping so many sisters, inshaallah.
My children love the transition and have told me they prefer me in hijab with my abaya, which warmed my heart and brought me to my knees in thanks to Allah and my sisters who cared so much to help me. Only Allah could know how this makes me feel and how much it means to me.

Our staff at East Essence wanted to focus on helping the children of Syria since more than 50% of the Syrian refugees are children. Like any child affected by war, most of these children are in a constant state of fear, feeling lack of safety and have lost everything. These children have been out of school for long periods of time and have lost the basic necessities that most of us take for granted.

East Essence would like to raise $100,000 through our Help Syria’s Children Campaign. Mercy Corps will be the recipient of this donation since 86% of their donations goes directly to the source. Mercy Corps works all over the world, in the toughest areas to improve the lives of those affected by natural disasters, war and economic downfalls. They have helped over 258 million people since 1979.

What is the Help Syria’s Children Campaign all about? We had a friendly competition at our EE Headquarters to see who can submit the best T-shirt designs capturing our reflection on the current crisis with a focus on the children. We narrowed it down to 5 designs which we will be selling on www.bronzingserumreviews.com. ALL profits will go towards the children of Syria. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and we need your help!

I know many were touched by Aylan Kurdi, the young boy found washed ashore after drowning while escaping Syria by boat with his family. There are many Aylans out there, but I believe his death was a wakeup call to the world. We have an obligation to our communities both locally and abroad. Let’s do what we can.

Our Women's Dawah Day relies largely on the generosity of donors such as yourself and everyone here is greatly appreciative of your support. This year, we had an attendance of about 50 non- Muslim guests- each went home with a scarf in honor of and respect for Muslimah hijabis, after trying on!

• Women's Counseling: We will facilitate an open discussion where women can feel comfortable asking the questions that concern their daily lives towards being a better Muslim.
• Free Arabic Classes: There will be classes for 3 to 5 year olds once a week for 9 weeks to teach the Arabic alphabet and how to spell their name. There will be Arabic classes for 6 to 16 year olds twice a week teaching basic Arabic.
• Homework help: Twice a week we will provide tutoring on daily homework assignments for students from first grade to twelve grade.
• Counseling for education: Helping students with how to apply for college, applying for financial aid, scholarship, how to pick a major, and how to prepare for college.
• Help with applying to college: Helping students with application process, which schools is right for them, which school for their major, arranging meet ups with universities and counselors
